Wandering Son

I honestly barely even know where to begin when it comes to this. I think it's safe to say that this page will be in flux for a long time.

Overview

Wandering Son is a manga and anime series about several trans children as they grow up in school.

Nitori

Nitori

Nitori

Nitori, the main character of the series and namesake of this entire website, is a trans girl. The story overall is an arc about her understanding and coming to terms with her identity.

I discovered this manga series when I was around 14, and naturally Nitori is the character I identified with the most. Everything about her was so familiar to me. The shame in wanting to present female, and the joy when doing so. This was the first time I had ever experienced a piece of media where I really saw myself reflected in a character.

Takatsuki

Takatsuki

Takatsuki

Takatsuki is Nitori's classmate and friend. He is a trans boy [1]. He provides great contrast for Nitori, highlighting the numerous similarities and differences between trans-fem and trans-masc people.

Growing up, I tried to imagine what it would be like to have a friend like Takatsuki who you knew would understand you, without having to explain. Now that I'm older and integrated into a great community of trans people, I know exactly what this connection feels like! The kind of connection that trans people can have to one another is hard to explain to cis people.

From the Anime

The anime is absolutely gorgeous! The water color look is just so pretty

Yuki saying to Nitori: Now I really love my life

Yuki talking to Nitori. A recent re-watch of the series is where I realized that I more strongly identify with Yuki than Nitori now, especially this part right here.

[1]Yes I know this isn't how the story ends, but I just refuse to acknowledge that. For the purposes of this page, this is how I will refer to Takatsuki. I think how the story deals with the end of Takatsuki's story is bad.
